Mammaplasty (Female Breast Reduction)

CANDIDATES (FEMALE)

Women with excess fat, glandular tissue and skin in the breast region such that they experience discomfort associated with overly large breasts.

OBJECTIVE

Reduce enlarged breasts or excess fat and glandular tissue through a small areolar incision and aspirating the excess fat through liposuction.

OPERATING TIME

1 hour to one and half hour

ANESTHESIA

Local with sedation

IN/OUT PATIENT

Usually out patient.

Bruising, swelling, numbness, soreness, temporary pain, infection, change in nipple sensation, blood clots, change in breast contour.

Back to work: 3 to 7 days. Strenuous activity: 2 to 3 weeks. Exercising: one month. Swelling and bruising: 3 to 6 months.

Fluid accumulation, infection, asymmetry. Pigmentation changes (may become permanent if exposed to sun). In cases where there is too much excess tissue there might be the need for a second procedure to remove more tissue after the skin has retracted.

Permanent. However, over time your breasts can change due to aging, weight fluctuations, hormonal factors and gravity.
